What is apple cobbler?

An apple cobbler is a classic American dessert that typically consists of a layer of sweetened and spiced apples, which are often sliced or diced, and topped with a biscuit or cake-like batter. The dish is then baked until the fruit is tender and the topping is golden brown.

Why you’ll love this apple dessert:

  • Easy to make – Simply toss the apples in some sugar and spice, whip up an easy biscuit batter that doesn’t require any kneading or rolling, and bake. In under an hour, you have a bubbly dish of deliciousness!
  • Perfect biscuit topping – The topping for this apple cobbler is crunchy on the outside yet soft and fluffy on the inside. It’s the perfect pairing for a bed of tender apple slices underneath.
  • Fitting for any occasion – Simple enough to make for an everyday treat, yet tasty enough for a special occasion (especially served with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream!).

FAQ:

Does apple cobbler need to be refrigerated?

Yes, apple cobbler should be refrigerated because of the fruit filling.

What is the difference between apple cobbler and apple crisp?

The difference is in their toppings. While both desserts feature spiced and baked apples, a cobbler typically has a biscuit or cake-like topping, resulting in a soft and doughy texture. In contrast, an apple crisp is topped with a mixture of oats, flour, butter, and sugar, creating a crumbly, crispy layer when baked.

Can you freeze apple cobbler?

Yes, you can freeze apple cobbler. Once the cobbler is completely cooled, cover it tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil, or transfer it to an airtight container. Store in the freezer for up to 3 months. When ready to enjoy, thaw the cobbler in the refrigerator overnight and reheat it in the oven before serving.

Do you have to peel apples for apple cobbler?

Peeling apples for cobblers is a matter of personal preference. Leaving the peel on saves time and offers nutritional benefits. On the other hand, I find that peeling the apples give a much better texture in the final dish.
