🌟 Expert tips:

  • Use ripe but firm plums so they’re juicy without becoming too mushy in the batter.
  • Cut the plums into small pieces so they distribute evenly throughout the muffins.
  • Be careful not to overmix the batter, as this can make the muffins dense.
  • Don’t skip the cinnamon-sugar topping—it adds a lovely sweet crunch to the tops.
  • For bakery-style presentation, add a thin slice of plum to each muffin before baking.

How to store:

Store the muffins in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

These muffins also freeze well. Place them in a freezer-safe container or bag and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature or overnight in the refrigerator.

Recipe FAQs:

What are the best plums for muffins?

Any variety of ripe plum will work in this recipe. Red, black, and yellow plums all bake beautifully and add a sweet-tart flavor to the muffins.

Can I use all-purpose flour instead of whole wheat flour?

Yes. You can substitute the whole wheat flour with an equal amount of all-purpose flour. The muffins will be slightly lighter in texture.

Can I reduce the sugar?

I wouldn’t recommend that. The muffins are just sweet enough. If you reduce the sugar any further, it won’t be sweet enough and may even be tart with the plums.

What can I substitute for almond flour?

You can substitute with equal amounts of any other nut flour or more whole wheat flour.
