Ingredients

Bread

  • 1 & 3/4 cups (220g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 & 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • pinch of nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or plain yogurt
  • 1 & 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups apples, peeled, cored, and diced (about 2 large apples)

Topping

  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F. Grease and line a 9×5 loaf pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, toss together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar until well combined. Then add the eggs, sour cream, and vanilla. Whisk again until smooth.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir until almost combined. Fold in the apples until just combined. Spoon the batter into the prepared baking pan.
  5. In a small bowl, mix together the cinnamon sugar and sprinkle on top. Using the tip of a small knife, gently swirl the cinnamon sugar into the batter.
  6. Bake at 350F for one hour or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool for 30 minutes, then use parchment paper to remove the bread from the pan and let cool completely before slicing.
