What is French yogurt cake?
French yogurt cake, or “gâteau au yaourt” in French, is a simple and classic French dessert made with yogurt, flour, sugar, eggs, and oil. The cake has a moist and tender crumb with a slightly tangy flavor from the yogurt. It’s an everyday cake that can be served on its own, with some orange marmalade, or a dollop of crème fraîche and fresh berries.
In France, yogurt was usually sold in 1/2 cup jars, so this cake was originally made by using the yogurt pot to measure out the rest of the ingredients. For example: 1 pot of oil, 2 pots of sugar, and 3 pots of flour, etc. It was often the first cake French children were taught to make by their grandmothers because of the simplicity and ease of the ingredient ratios to remember.
Why this recipe is so great:

- Absolutely delicious – This yogurt cake is super moist with a soft and tender crumb that practically melts in your mouth. It’s light yet the flavor is rich and creamy with a bright taste of citrus.

This French yogurt cake is always winner! I love the subtle flavors of vanilla and lemon, and the fact that it’s not overly sweet. Moist and tender cakes are always a hit, and the use of yogurt in this recipe makes it sound extra delicious.

I love the texture of this cake Lily. Now that there is just two of us empty nesters at home, I find that I’m baking less and less. I like the small size of loaf cakes. It’s just enough for the two of us to have a small treat over several days.

Absolutely Delicious! I followed the recipe ( pretty much), I didn’t have plain yogurt but I did have a jar of lemon yogurt by Oui, I used the full jar 1/2 cup, and I used 1 teaspoon of vanilla.  After I tested it I cut a V on the top and filled it with Lemon curd and dusted it with powdered sugar. Yummy! I definitely  will save this recipe, thank you…
The baking time was too much for me, mine was done 40 minutes. Â
